Messier 81
View Full ResolutionA fine spiral galaxy located close to Messier 82 in Ursa Major. It was discovered by Bode in 1774 and added to Messier's catalogue in 1781. M81 is about 12 million light years away from us and has a diameter of about 70,000 light years. The image was taken in Spain in May 2026 using Colin Cooper's 12" Officine Stellari scope and ZWO ASI6200MM Pro camera and is an LRGB of 120:30:30:30 minutes.
